Chef Desmond Yu Wai Chow, an internationally respected master of Japanese cuisine, earned Second Place in the 11th Washoku World Challenge – Americas Regional Round (2023). This prestigious culinary competition, organized by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, recognizes chefs outside of Japan who excel in the artistry, technique, and cultural traditions of washoku—traditional Japanese cuisine. Chef Chow’s achievement in this elite competition reflects his deep expertise and creative mastery across all aspects of Japanese culinary arts, including hot dishes, seasonal aesthetics, ingredient knowledge, and menu harmony. His performance stood out among a field of accomplished chefs from across the Americas, earning him high praise for both skill and authenticity.

Currently, he serves as Corporate Task Force Specialist for the MINA Group, where he oversees restaurant operations, mentorship, and culinary excellence. Chef Chow is also a World Sushi Cup 2017 Best Performance Award recipient and holds a Black Belt Certification in Sushi Technology, underscoring his elite status as a global ambassador of Japanese cuisine. His recognition at the 2023 Washoku World Challenge adds another milestone to a decorated career defined by innovation, tradition, and international acclaim.
